Work Singapore

By admin On May 21, 2010 Under Featured Posts

Work Singapore is here to serve you. Are you looking for work? Singapore is where you want to be. Work in Singapore is easier to come by nowadays in view of the turnaround in the economy and the healthy economic outlook. The economy has been restored to pre-recession output levels. The Singapore economy grew 13.1 percent in the first quarter of 2010 and the labour market is tight.  So employers are hiring again.

At the May Day rally, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that more than 100,000 new jobs will be created this year, if the economy grows by 7 to 9 per cent as forecast. Last year the number of jobs created was 37,600.

Some of the jobs will have to be filled by foreigners on work and employment passes. However, in the longer term Singapore will cut back its reliance on foreign manpower. It will have to put more emphasis on productivity and go for qualitative growth.

For those of you looking for a job, I have some tips for you to become more employable. A prerequisite is a degree, diploma or professional certification. Next you have to improve on your resume. Finally you have to perform at interviews.

Brush up on your skills and qualities needed for the job that you are looking for. Of course they cannot be learned in a short time, so start immediately to plan and work out a strategy for the job you are looking out for.

Now let’s talk about your resume. In it, you must sell yourself. Then at the first interview, you must aim to secure a second interview.

Something for you to note is that almost half of the job openings may not be related to the discipline you may have studied. The increased opportunity is double-edged, because it also means there is more competition.

Employers like to look at your personality, experience, knowledge, and track record to see if you fit into the job and the company culture. This means you need to research the job and company when applying for the job. And show that you have people skills, task-management skills, positive attitude, and a good sense of awareness when you attend the interview.

The above is so important to the employers because they want you to be able to work and contribute to the company in as short a time as possible with the least training and thus the least disruption to colleagues.

Wishing you a successful career if you work in Singapore.

By the way do you need to take a break?

How about taking a few minutes to enjoy this video that shows some highlights at the Universal Studios Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa.
